This chocolate frosting would find a happy home on any cake or cookie. It's our go-to frosting for our signature black cocoa cake recipe.

It has a dark brown chocolate color when the recipe below is followed as-is, but you can always choose to add more black cocoa if you're looking to achieve an even darker chocolate frosting. Just slowly add black cocoa and taste and admire until you've achieved your desired color!

Ingredients

12oz Cream Cheese, Room Temperature
1 ½ Sticks (6oz) Unsalted Butter, Room Temperature
3 Cups Powdered Sugar
⅔ Cup Modern Mountain Black Cocoa Powder
1 TSP Vanilla
½ TSP Kosher Salt (¼ TSP Fine Salt)
1-2 TBSP Heavy Cream or Whole Milk, if needed

Directions

Combine softened cream cheese and butter into a mixing bowl.
Using hand beaters or a standing mixer, beat over medium speed until fluffy and evenly combined.
Add powdered sugar, cocoa powder, vanilla and salt.
Starting on low speed, beat to incorporate the dry ingredients. Increase speed to medium once most of dry ingredients are incorporated, and beat until well-combined and fluffy.

TIP: If the frosting is a bit too stiff, add up to 1-2 tablespoons of heavy cream or whole milk to loosen the mixture.
